Check out Seth Godin's blog post, Shiny and Deep, on storytelling from a marketing perspective. I think his post makes sense for the career world, too. Aren't all career managers and job seekers really personal marketers? If they're not, they should be!
Seth says all marketing stories need to be shiny (attract) and deep (fascinate). Seems like this echos George's Career Hub post, Telling Stories, on grabbing and holding attention in interviews by telling interesting and relevant stories.
Dan Pink's A Whole New Mind says much about the growing force of storytelling in business, too.
So, what's your story?

I recently took my car into the shop. When discussing price I told him to be gentle with me because I was recently laid off. He asked me what kind of work I did and I told him marketing. Kiddingly, he told me to sell him on why I should be hired and said "you're in marketing, sell yourself." Part of me wanted to smack him, but of course he was right. For many of us, selling ourself is very difficult. I am working to improve on this. Great post!

Tim, I feel your pain. I spend all day helping people market themselves and yet I am currently trying to rewrite the copy for my own business website and I am finding it terribly difficult. It seems it's easy to market someone else's product or service and harder to do it for ourselves. But we perservere!
