After all, everyone is on their best behavior during a job interview. But how will you really behave once on the job? Southwest believes they'll get a more complete and realistic picture by observing candidates when they're not "performing."
While not all employers can spy on candidates during travel times, many good companies follow this same model once you're within their doors. How you treat the receptionist, how you react to appointment delays or postponements, your voice and manners during cell-phone calls while you're waiting... all of this is used to factor into the kind of employee you'll be.
The lesson? It's a life lesson, not just a job search lesson. Be nice to others. Don't be loud, rude, or selfish. Respect others' property and privacy. Always practice good manners. As a mother, I feel vindicated - all that great advice I've been giving my kids their entire lives will prove useful in the job market!
