I always enjoy reading Dave Opton's blog... it's down-to-earth, funny, and genuine, just like Dave. A recent post on job-search scams caught my attention.
My take on the success of these scammers is that what they're really selling is HOPE. And all too many job seekers, at a loss as to how to conduct an effective search, buy into the idea that they can pay someone else to do it for them. They buy the hope and expectation that for just a few thousand dollars and very little work, effort, or frustration they'll end up with the job of their dreams.
Truly, buyer beware. Be sure you know what you're getting for your money, and do what you can to vet the provider (via questions, work samples, and/or references). Most of all, don't buy into the belief that anyone else can or will find a job for you.
