Mom may have said it first, "Don't put all your eggs in one basket." And she was right, as with so many things. This is true in life--and, certainly, with career search.
In wrapping up a nationally syndicated radio program yesterday, I shared with the host and the listening audience my impression of what makes for the most effective and accelerated job search strategy. It's one that is fully integrated and capitalizes on all of the following tools:
* Personal contacts through networking
* Use of trade journals
* Leveraged industry connections
* Selective use of newspaper and on-line classifieds
* Targeted recruiter contacts
* Job-search groups and clubs
* On-line subscription services
* And old-fashioned, laser-focused "cold calling" and introductions to prospective employers as well as strategic contacts.
How many different baskets are you using in your search?
