Despite what you may have heard or believe, blogging has not changed the world! You may find the statistics somewhat startling. A Forrester Research report published on Charlene Li's blog reveals that blogs are read by:
24% of Gen Yers (ages 18-26)
12% of Gen Xers (ages 27-40)
7% of Young Boomers (ages 41-50)
Charlene's point was that people marketing to Gen Y had better be blogging. My take is that people (like me) marketing to Young Boomers and beyond had better do more than blog! And job seekers wishing to influence and be noticed by senior executives/hiring managers, many of whom can be expected to be 40+, cannot simply blog, blog, blog and expect to be noticed in all the right places.
So the mantra for all good marketers (whether marketing a product, a business, or yourself) is MULTI-CHANNEL, MULTI-CHANNEL, MULTI-CHANNEL. Keep things going on all fronts. There will be interplay and crossover that will result in much greater buzz than if you confined yourself to one channel... no matter how revolutionary.
