I meet the most wonderful people in this business. Yesterday, for example, after my client and I finished up our counseling session, he asked me what I was doing for the Thanksgiving holiday. I told him and later, I got to thinking about the words of thanks and giving, and how I pretty much take the day for granted -- dreaming of big food, big naps, and big shopping I hope to do. And, I was somewhat disappointed in myself.
Hey, this IS THANKS + GIVING I reminded myself! So, this year, instead of my usual have a free day off, I am going to be quite intentional in letting others know how grateful and thankful I am for them and what they mean to me.
And the giving part, well, that's a big deal. I can do more of that, too! Give a hand, give a hug, give more than I get sort of thing. Doesn't really matter what you give -- it is the thought, the sentiment behind it.
So, as it relates to the job search and the career world, it is good to remember to thank all of the people who help you along the way -- family, friends, supervisors, references, professional network, recruiters, coaches, professors, etc.
Who do you need to thank? What can you give of yourself this day to make someone's world better, easier, richer, fuller?
Happy Turkey Day!
