Change Your Mind?

Changingyourmind_2_greenThe other day here on Career Hub, I wrote a post about tattooing. It was up for only a few hours because I couldn't get the post worded the way I wanted, no matter how much I "managed" it. So I changed my mind; I deleted it. Now I am free to rewrite and post on that subject when I am ready.

Have you ever changed your mind about something? For example, have you ever changed your mind about a job you accepted one day, only to be offered your dream job a few days later? Have you ever changed your mind about an interview you agreed to, only to call and cancel? Have you ever changed your mind about a business deal simply because it didn't feel right? Or, maybe you're afraid to change your mind? Perhaps you're concerned about what others will think if you change your mind? Do you have the courage to say I changed my mind? For some, it is a lot easier said than done.

Here are some A,B,C's to consider when it comes to changing your mind about something that really matters in your career:

Analyze - Analyze the situation/circumstances; gather all the facts first before you make any hasty decisions that will impact your life, or the lives of others.

Brainstorm - Brainstorm best case / worst case scenarios with people you trust.

Collaborate - Collaborate with a knowledgeable, neutral third party to review choices / consequences and discern legal, financial, and emotional risk / reward.

Decision - Decide upon the best, most appropriate course of action to take at this time.

Execute - Execute the decision; carry out the plan; in Nike language: just do it.

Changing your mind about things that really matter in your career isn't a bad thing. Changing your mind could be one of the best decisions you'll ever make.
