The Boss is Always Right

Timeout_3

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the manager are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp. They rub it and a Genie comes out. The Genie says, 'I'll give each of you just one wish.' 'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk 'I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.' Puff! She's gone.

'Me next! Me next!' says the sales rep. 'I want to be in Hawaii, relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.' Puff! He's gone. 'OK, you're up,' the Genie says to the manager. The manager says, 'I want those two back in the office after lunch'

Moral of the story: Always let your boss have the first say.

Funny story Paul and the moral is right on target. Another good piece of advice is to always pause for a second or two before responding to your boss or other colleagues to give yourself some time to think. Most people do way too much talking, too fast and not enough listening. The few seconds rule can apply to email responses as well. Actually, you can wait several minutes or even an hour to respond to emails depending on the urgency. This is especially true if you don't know how to respond or if an email was upsetting to you. You need time to think if you are unsure about how to respond or you need a cool down period if the email was upsetting. You can avoid quite a bit of trouble, confusion and tension with a little patience.
