Leading-Edge Job Sites

Some new candidate sourcing models are cropping up on the Internet. Fast Company reviews four of them. 

(1) www.notchup.com looks for happily employed candidates who are willing to be paid varying amounts to sit for an interview. Some of the participating companies are: Motorola, Genetech, and Disney. 

(2) www.jobfox.com is a more typical job board but considered to be more valuable due to its next-generation search functions that match the employer to the prospective candidate. It allows job seekers to set up a branded one-page website and to get introductions to companies. Companies that participate: the likes of Verizon, Hitachi, and Geico.

(3) www.bluechipexpert.com can benefit job seekers in a couple of ways: they can be discovered by an executive hiring manager or they can refer a friend who then gets hired (and they then get a finder's fee). Membership is by invitation only and people have to have a current BlueChipExpert refer them. Companies: Pepsi, American Express.

(4) H3.com offers an individual a $10,000 fee if one of the candidates s/he recommend gets hired. Companies: Microsoft, Fidelity, and Gartner. This method bypasses executive recruiters and goes straight to the networks of participating people.

These sites tend to be more selective than the usual job boards and have more barriers to entry. My guess is that once these sites become more commonly used, the quality of the hires and of the hiring experience for the hiring authorities may degrade. 

Still, as both employers and job seekers (passive or active) explore new sourcing and job search models, the process will hopefully become more efficient for all concerned.

RiseSmart.com is a more comprehensive service as well. A real person (a concierge, of sorts) hones in on each member's career skills/goals, then compiles and sends relevant listings via e-mail. These $100k+ jobs come from job search engines (weeding through the junk, of course) and also from RiseSmart's own corporate recruiting service.
