What a wonderful comparison! We adopted a 2 month old puppy, Dizzle, about 6 months ago and I can certainly see how the lessons she has taught me about raising a dog can also apply to my profesional life.

When we brought her home, she was docile, sweet, and generally relaxed... until she started coughing like crazy and we realized that she was a pretty sick pup. After we brought her home from a 3-day animal hospital stay as a perfectly healthy dog, she was a total maniac!

We quickly realized that the puppy we thought we were getting was not the case, and had to adapt to the totally lovable but completely crazed puppy we really had.

Professionally, I was going through the same type of situation. The calm, relaxing, generally pleasing job that I started around the same time that we brought Dizzle home quickly turned into a busy, stressful nightmare. Once I learned to adapt to the reality of my situation, and adjust my view of and approach to it, I turned that job into a manageable, enjoyable experience that I'm now liking quite a lot.

And Dizzle, at the same time, has turned into a lovable, obedient 8 month old dog who I couldn't imagine working from home without!

Brie, that's a lovely story. I still feel somewhat fearful of having a dog like Lili, but she is great company in the house. It would be interesting to hear more about how you managed to turn around your work situation through view and approach - I expect a lot of people could benefit from hearing about that - so many people are unhappy in their work.
