The holidays are over and the New Year is upon us. As I was packing away holiday decorations, I came to the bulletin board in our kitchen. On it, I had displayed any number of holiday letters and photos from years gone by. As I was taking them down, it soon became a bleak-looking bulletin board. Bare. Empty. Vacant. Void. Blank. Nothing on it. And it got me to thinking about how the New Year is here and how the empty bulletin board is a good reminder of the value of a clean slate...
~ a new chance to write another story in the year 2010...
~ a time to start anew and look forward to what will be instead of what was...
~ a time to tap into creative thoughts, ideas and powers to imagine possibilities and opportunities to serve your world, your community and even yourself.
As William Bridges teaches in his powerful work Transitions: Making Sense of Life's Changes, new beginnings start with endings. What ended for you in 2009? What, if anything, do you need to let go and not carry with you into 2010 as you embark upon the New Year? What do you wish to celebrate and commemorate about the year '09 as you reflect upon your career, professional life and/or job search?
The wonderful thing about a bulletin board or a clean slate or a blank Word document, or even a new job search is that you get to choose how you go about designing it, developing it and filling in the blanks as you go along. May you write a very good story in 2010. Here's to a Happy New Year filled with good health, good cheer and best wishes from me to you.
