1. 'When do you think "things" will "get back" to "normal?"

They won't 'get back to normal' as we knew it
Completely different business environment will lead to a very different work place and different expectations from workforce too - all of which impacts on how we manage careers.

2. Do you think things will get back to "normal" this year?
- Think this year likely to be a year of transition and stabilization into what we'll come to know as the 'new normal' in 2011/2012

Just my two cents worth..

Tim

Great thoughts and post. I've been hearing about this "new normal" for awhile now and when I think about what this means for me it means that normal has changed permanently. My background is marketing, more specifically traditional marketing (radio/tv/print)...I know that if I want to continue in marketing (and any other area of business for that matter), I will have to embrace all of the new social media tools.

I think you can also see this in other areas of business like administrative and HR professionals. Two jobs ago, on my first day of work, the receptionist was let go. In my most recent layoff, our office's only HR person was let go (to be handled by the holding company in NY).

I think anyone who holds onto the idea of things returning to the way things were will be disappointed and left behind.

Sital, as always, you offer great insights.

Tim, excellent points you make...especially the part about "will be disappointed and left behind."

Thanks to you both!
