I believe rule one is a golden rule of networking. I would like to reiterate/rephrase Zig Zigler's philosophy of life - If you help other people to achieve what they want in their life, then you will get what you want in your life.
Eagerly looking forward to 6 other rules. Thanks.

That's a great one, but I think I would have put it at number 2, even though it's satisfying philosophically to have it at number 1.
My number 1 would be to make sure people can figure out who you are. You can help all you want, but if someone clicks through to your profile and finds it nearly empty, with no photo, a bare bones current job title, and no other info about you, they're (or at least I would be) going to be hesitant about contacting you and taking that connection further.
