The other day I attended a transformational leadership program called "Lessons From Gettysburg" delivered by The Lincoln Leadership Institute at Gettysburg. When I attend seminars, I am always interested in how I can take what I have learned and apply it to help clients. Listed below are six tweets I made about this presentation:
~ "Impress you or impress upon you." #big #difference. When you're in an interview, are you trying to impress the hiring team, or are you delivering a compelling message about you and your brand, impressing upon them how you will make a positive dent in their bottom line?
~ "When we learn #emotionally, the #lessons stay with us forever." -- quote from Steven B. Wiley #leadership. If you have encountered job loss, have you examined, discovered, or thought about what, if any, lessons the experience has taught you and how you might apply the lessons to enrich your life?
~ "Where will your #leadership take others...who will come with you?" Thanks to Twitter, LinkedIn and other social media opportunities, the 'user' is provided immediate feedback on the number of people who follow...he has 542,008 followers and she has 19,427. Does that make him a better transformational leader than her? Or, does the number reflected have absolutely '0' to do with what type of transformational leader you are? (Something to think about, just in case you are asked this during an interview).
~ "Do you have a clue as to how you come across?" #personalbranding #interview. What five words immediately come to mind when you think about yourself? Are they good and positive words, or not so good and negative? What words might others choose to describe you, the product -- you the brand?
~ "If you're going to ask questions, then listen to the answers." Can you recall a time when you asked someone a question, and had little, if any, interest in their response, mainly because you were formulating the next point you wanted to make? Next time, perhaps you could consider foregoing your agenda for the sake of theirs...listen to learn.
~ "...you don't have my heart." #branding #brand. Take a look at your resume. Do an autopsy of your interviews and networking exchanges. Do you come across on paper (and in person) as someone who is blah, boring, flat, disengaged and lethargic? If you think that you might, how about injecting some passion, energy, drive, motivation, determination, and inspiration into the wonderful product - YOU!
