Lunching at Five Guys in Chicago, one of the things I really liked about the place was the music. The music was upbeat, energizing, rhythm and bluesy and loud...not so loud you couldn't talk, but loud enough that you noticed and could 'feel' it (and write a blog post about it some weeks later).
Watching one of my favorite television shows, CBS Sunday Morning, there was a story about Muzak and music's impact on consumers. Got me to thinking that if music 'entices' people to spend, I wonder if music might also be used to help motivate people to search for jobs -- you know, put them in a good place mentally to get 'revved up' for the ride?
What do you think? Does music inspire and motivate you to 'buy' yourself a job? What impact, if any, has music had on your job hunt? Is there a particular song that has motivated you into action that could be of value to job seekers?

Thanks!

Billie: Great post...I'd say music has a positive impact on my job search. There's not one single song that helps me through, but I do listen to different songs at different times. When I give speeches at Toastmasters and get ready for an interview (I wish I had more of these lately), I'll listen to songs from the Best of Rocky soundtrack. I do agree with you about music at different restaurants and how it can enhance your experience. I ate at an Asian restaurant called Bao Wow here in Chicago and found that the music added to my experience. I used to eat at a hot dog joint owned by the former manager of the rock band Chicago and they played Chicago music, which was cool.

Tim...wonderful comments you have shared. Hoping that you will get more interviews soon! And thanks for taking time to stop by and make a comment. Best to you...Billie

I have had a career writing music for films and videos (had 3 vcuts recorded and released by major artists, produced most of the Slinky Commercials, and have written the stage musical,"Slinky, The Musical", based upon the life of Betty James, who's husband discovered the Slinky-Toy. My daughter and I, both professional musicians, have written all the music for the show, I have written screenplays, had a movie produced in Luxembourg, featuring Andrew McCarthy, based on a story I wrote and have another ready to pitch.

Good words to remember! :)

Kind of think of it like driving...I hate to drive, unless I have a good song to listen to. Then I enjoy my time and get the job done. People, if entertained, will get borning stuff out of the way and have their stress reduced. Job hunting is stressful and those application after application can be very tedious. But music will help lift the spirit.
Depending on the person and music being played...it can have a positive or negative reaction.
