As our session progressed, my client and I were chatting about how important it is to be a good detective when looking for a new opportunity. Are you a good detective? Are you a good private investigator? Are you a good private eye as it relates to your search for new employment?
Do you like to investigate?
Are you a decent spy?
Are you a snoop?
Do you enjoy exploring clues to see where they might lead?
Do you like looking into things to find out more about them?
Do you like to check things out just because it might provide another insight?
Do you like to track down new information and ideas?
Do you have dogged determination in trying to figure things out?
Do you have the motivation and commitment to stay with it until all of the pieces of your job search puzzle fall into place?
I would love to say that I thought of the idea of being a good private investigator as it relates to job search. I didn’t. I first heard the term years ago from Dr. Howard Figler at a national conference in Indianapolis, IN. With a plethora of resources available to you as a job seeker, both online and offline, always remember this basic, fundamental piece of job search: be a stellar sleuth. Do your best to master your private eye role in solving your own employment case. Do not give up until you mark your file: case closed.
