The other day, my client and I were talking about his career transition and what he was learning in the process. He used the word
ruminate
from Latin rūmināre to chew the cud
which led to a conversation about how ruminating is one thing and doing is quite another. While ruminating may be cool for cows, maybe not so much for us? What do you think?
As a job seeker, are you ruminating about looking for work?
Are you going over and over in your mind
about what to do next?
Are you engaging in contemplation about starting your job search?
Are you chewing on a topic for an extended period of time?
Are you musing upon the process of exploring career options during this period of transition?
Are you pondering and mulling and weighing what opportunity to accept or reject?
Rumination is good. Ruminating is great. That said, if you are a ruminator, perhaps you will consider establishing a timeline (deadline) to move from ruminator to doer; from thought to action; from here to there.
