When my daughter interviewed for a position with the Ritz-Carlton, she was asked "What is the tempo of your life?" What would your answer be? Is your tempo fast and quickly changing. Does it drone on like a funeral procession? Does it have a light-hearted and lively beat? Does it take twists and turns and leave your audience wondering what to expect next? Or is is slow and steady?
As the holidays approach, it is easy to loose our natural tempo and become over extended and stressed out. An article in Parade Magazine included this sobering statistic: "Research has found that a kindergartner laughs 300 times a day - and adult only 17." How about you - how many times did you laugh today? When did you last take time to play.
Play brings us together, allows us to put the rest of the world on pause and encourages us to laugh. Play teaches us trust, cooperation, respect for others, sharing, mastery, and many of life's other lessons. Play is a fundamental need, just like air, water, and the five food groups.
Quick, before the holidays zap your energy and the year is over - PLAY! Make a snow angel, get your picture taken on Santa's knee, frost a ginger bread man, cut out paper snowflakes!
Reward yourself for all you have accomplished this year and prepare to embrace the New Year with the energy and enthusiasm of a child - and LAUGH!
Best wishes for a joyous holiday season and a fabulous New Year!

Norine, I just had to comment...this morning, as per usual, my arms were loaded with work bag, purse, along with muffin in container and large coffee from my favorite bakery. On the way into my office, I dropped my car keys, muffin flew out from under my arm, and I accidentally kicked the coffee over as I sat it down to retrieve my possessions. What a site...laugh, indeed! Merry, Merry! :)
